5 Tipps, wie Dein Lederarmband den Sommer unbeschadet übersteht

5 tips on how your leather bracelet can survive the summer unscathed

Summer is fast approaching and while your leather wristband has served you well in winter, you may now be wondering whether it needs different care during the summer months, whether it absorbs odors and what happens if you get caught in a summer thunderstorm.

First things first: just because it's summer doesn't mean you have to do without leather! Especially with loose leather bracelets, you don't have to worry at all during the warmer months!

A leather strap is a natural product that requires care and attention in order to last you a long time, especially in summer, when heat, salt water and sweat can damage it.

Tip 1: Change your bracelets regularly

Just like leather pants, leather bracelets also come into direct contact with your skin. However, unlike your clothes, you can't just throw your wristband in the washing machine. So how can you ensure that your leather bracelet stays beautiful for as long as possible? One of the easiest ways is not to wear it 365 days a year. Logical, right?

Just give your bracelet an occasional break so that it can breathe without being wrapped around your skin. Maybe you even have several bracelets and can wear them alternately.

Tip 2: Keep your leather bracelet away from moisture

Leather is a natural material and therefore "alive". It ages, changes and acquires a patina. Moisture and, in summer, perspiration are crucial elements that need to be taken into account. As already mentioned, you cannot simply wash your leather strap like dirty socks. Especially in summer, it is therefore important to change the strap regularly and not wear it all the time. Take it off in the evening and always allow it to dry thoroughly!

It also goes without saying: Never swim with your leather bracelet and protect it from rain if possible. If it does get wet, make sure you let it dry thoroughly and then treat it with a cream!

Tip 3: Remember to look after your bracelet

Leather, like skin, needs to be regularly cared for and moisturized. It is skin. What happens to your hands if you don't moisturize them with lotion? That's right: they become dry. Sometimes even so dry that they crack, right? It's the same with leather straps. To prevent them from drying out and cracking, we recommend treating them with a cream for leather.

It's child's play: First wipe away the dust with a minimally damp cloth, then very gently massage the cream into your strap in small circular movements until it is smooth and matt. The leather will thank you with its longevity!

Tip 4: Treat your leather watch straps with care

What's worse than swimming with your leather strap? Pulling on it hard every morning when you put it on and folding it - and doing the same every evening when you take it off again. Every time you put your bracelet on, it is subjected to a lot of wear and tear and will show particularly unsightly marks where it has been attacked (usually at the crease). The leather will suffer as a result. So when putting on and taking off your bracelet, always remember that it is a fine material and relatively fragile.

Tip 5: You can get rid of unpleasant odors this way:

Despite all the care and attention you take, your leather bracelet may start to smell of sweat. Don't stress - it's not the end of the world! There are a few small tips to help you get rid of the unpleasant odor:

  • You can carefully brush the leather strap with water and a mild soap. Then let it dry thoroughly!
  • There is a special leather soap that you can use for cleaning. It keeps the material particularly supple.
  • You can also combat the odor with vinegar water. Mix two equal parts water and vinegar and rub the bracelet thoroughly. The leather must then be allowed to air out well - please avoid direct sunlight!

Our tips in a nutshell: Try to change your strap frequently or at least don't put it on every day (especially in summer). Avoid moisture, but remember to treat it with a special care cream. Last but not least: treat your leather strap with care. In the long run, this will make a big difference in ensuring that your leather bracelets last a long time!
